CanRock Renaissance - 1985-1995 by junodog4
A chart of albums released that contributed to or resulted from Canadian rock's glory days - the blessings of Canadian content laws, Muchmusic, and forward thinking record labels gave birth to an explosion of creative music, outside of the commercial artists who had hit it big in the USA. There is no Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, Alanis Morissette or Rush on here. (Not a statement of their talent, just that they didn't come from or contribute to this movement.) Artists like Arcade Fire, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Broken Social Scene owe much to this era.

Cool, this is brill - already kinda familiar with a couple of these bands (Inbreds, Jale) so plenty more to explore - hope to make a dent in this over time.
Could easily be expanded to 100 I think. There's another Pure album in there, more 54-40 and more Pikes possible. I'd drop in Matt Good's first album (1995), too. Red Earth by Crash Vegas - another very nice album worth including.
I just realized - this chart has one album in the top 1000, and another two in the top 2000... I guess it means that this renaissance was really only in Canada...?
and Canadian hip-hop grew a little later.
