Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.6/100, a mean average of 71.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.4.

Not exactly picking up where their last album left off, but perhaps harking back to Darklands days. There’s just enough barbed wire fuzz wrapping up the pop melodies to make it classic JAMC and it rocks hard when it needs to. Production is perhaps a little cleaner than we’re used to, thanks to input from Youth, but that’s no bad thing in 2017. There was criticism that this album was boring, something that could be said about a small portion of it – it can get a little repetitive – but you’re so busy enjoying the package, that you can easily overlook this. Besides, Jim and William have always been a somewhat keen to recycle material, even on the same album. It does sound different to halcyon JAMC, but if the boys had simply re-rehashed Psychocandy, I feel that critics would be even unhappier.
High Points: Amputation; Simian Split; War On Peace; All Things Pass
Mediocre, but actually a slight improvement over the overlong, murky "Munki" because at least their heart seems to be in this record.
Okay, "Damage and Joy" doesn't hold a candle to JAMC's work in the 80s, and I didn't expect it to, but this is a good record and actually a slight improvement over their last one "Munki" because this one bothers to be engaging; it really feels like their hearts are truly in this comeback. Groovy melodies and lovely duets abound.
Don't believe the positive reviews for this album , unfortunately this album is rubbish a sad , sad release from a band who really needs to call it a day . I love early JAMC stuff , this is a looooooooong way from that .
Who'd have thought that after Psycho Candy all those decades ago a band as anarchic as JMC would still be producing decent, and exciting, music
Did not need this comeback, sounds like something 40-year-old dad's would like though.
Sonido escasamente original, pero bien manufacturado, para una colección de canciones correcta, pero que en ningún momento llega a trascender hacia un nivel superior. Pasable.
