Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 5% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.4/100, a mean average of 76.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.0.

While this record was indeed very important in the development of stuff like speed-metal and idirectly thrash, it sounds more outdated than than let's say, the classic records from Black Sabbath. Saints in Hell is one of their best song, and most likely their darkest and most frigthening, and their cover of Better by You, Better than Me is one of the great covers of all time, up there with I Fought the Law by The Clash.
I really don't know why this album is rated so low. Musically it's amazing kickass heavy metal record that obviously was important for development of thrash metal. One thing that's annoying me here is some of the very high vocals, but it's not a big problem for me.
This would probably be my favorite Priest album. Massively under rated and often overlooked because it didn't have any "hits' on it. For fuck's sake, plenty of these tracks could of been pushed and been just as popular as 'Living after Midnight' or 'You got Another Thing Coming' if made mainstream. This is a fantastic album from start to finish. Definitely one of there best.
Beyond The Realms Of Death and Hero's End are two of the greatest metal tracks.
Enjoyed!
What’s with all the low ratings? This album was highly influential in the development of thrash metal, and it was also the one marking the birth of the Judas Priest we know and love today.
Priest's best and one of the best albums of all. I feel the need to use the 'U' word here.
Underrated.
In the top 3 JP albums along with Painkiller and Sad Wings Of Destiny. Heavier than Sad Wings but the songwriting is still pretty good and the songs are more ambitious and creative than those on the more popular albums they made after this one.
This is the album where Judas Priest really found their "style". Great album.
"Beyond the Realms of Death" is perfect, and one of the best Judas Priest songs.
It's guitar solo is the most finest example of Tipton and Downing's musical abilities.
