Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

Excellent list of rap albums...(hip-hop is a style within' the genre rap) :)

When I saw 36 Chambers at number one I figured this would be good, but it was even better than expected. It would be hard to do a better hip hop top 50.
This is a great list! If you're in the UK, you may be interested to know Black Star are playing a gig in Hammersmith soon.
Some additional artists that would be in my hip-hop fifty.. Immortal Technique, Non-Phixion, Mos Def, Talib Kweli and possibly Roots Manuva..
Great hip hop list but Reasonable Doubt should be higher and needs some Bone Thugs...

pretty solid hip-hop list.
Never heard of cLOUDDEAD but i will give them a listen. I also have never actually listened to a full Public Enemy album, but I just got It takes a Nation to Hold Us Back yesterday. So I will listen to the full thing sometime.
