"And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make."

It's ironic that, in my opinion, The Beatles' crowning achievement was their last album. It's a thing of beauty that never tires. I could listen to it at any time of the day, and any mood and not get bored of it. The range of emotions expessed is particularly effective, from melancholy (Something, You Never Give Me Your Money) to sheer joy (Here Comes the Sun, Octopus's Garden). In particular, side 2 is sheer perfection. The closing medley is the last grand statement from the Fab 4, a fitting finale for the band who changed the face of music.

"I look at the world and I notice it's turning
While my guitar gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
Still my guitar gently weeps."

One of the most famous double albums of all time, and it's not hard to see why. While the songwriting of The Beatles has never been better than on this album, this was when they were (pretty much) working as 4 solo artists. And it shows with the songs. They all take on different themes. John's seem to be more reflective and darker than most (Julia, Happiness is a Warm Gun, Yer Blues), Paul's, as ever, are more happy and cheerful (Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, Birthday, I Will), George's have a more spiritual theme (While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Long, Long, Long) and for the first time, we hear Ringo's songwriting (Don't Pass Me By). It has a lot of filler on it, but the filler is very good. The tracks that aren't filler are among the best ever recorded, and if this album was a single disc then it would easily be in the top 3.

"There's nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be.
It's easy."

I think the album title speaks for itself. Simply magical.

"I read the news today, oh boy
About a lucky man who made the grade.
And though the news was rather sad
Well I just had to laugh.
I saw the photograph."

What more is there to say that hasn't been said? It's psychedelic, whimsical, eccentric, emotional and I love it.

"All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall.
Some are dead and some are living,
In my life I've loved them all."

The album that got me into The Beatles. And it's the one where they first proved themselves as one of the true greats.

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 6% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 88.4/100, a mean average of 88.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 88.9/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 8.0.

It may contain too many well known albums (mainly classics or indie rock) for my taste but still I found some nice suprises like Elbow or Pulp (I'll have to listen to This is Hardcore) and we both admire many other british bands, starting with our beloved Pink Floyd. Plus your comments are great so well done for your chart.

Really loved your chart, even so I do not know a bunch of things, witch I will for sure, get to know. But what I liked the most is how you describe with your words these masterpieces and your notably sensitivity. Thanks!!!

There are many things that are ok for me, but The Wall second and especially American Idiot Third, are ideas that i dont share at all. Cool descriptions by the way.

A cracking chart...most I have listened too but will now go looking for Captain Dangerous. Would have got more albeit for 1 or 2 blips in my personal choice. Don't want to say as I feel I could get lynched for voicing this opinion. But still a above average chart

Great taste! Love the chart. Great artists, and great albums. I'll take note of some albums I haven't listened yet.

Also, the idea of adding your favourite tracks and lyrics is so interesting. I should do the same in my chart someday.
