Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by masonfuchs

I like my pop noisy and my noise poppy.

I'll be going through these periodically. I will be updating them with reasonings and some lyrical excerpts.

"Here I'm allowed, everything all of the time"

Unforgettable. The timbres throughout this record are so meticulously sought it seems inhumanly gorgeous. The four sampled chords in Idioteque alone can bring tears to my eyes. Radiohead is the only band that can make me believe word salad lyrics can be truly profound.

"Red wine and sleeping pills help me get back to your arms. Cheap sex and sad films help me get back where I belong"

"I'm the next act waiting in the wings. I'm an animal trapped in your hot car. I am all the days that you choose to ignore. You are all I need."

"Now that you've found it, it's gone. Now that you feel it, you don't. You've gone off the rails. So don't get any big ideas, they're not gonna happen. You'll go to hell for what your dirty mind is thinking."

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 85.7/100, a mean average of 85.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 85.6/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.7.

Best chart I've seen...up until Savage Garden and Phantom Planet anyway. Great to see Tusk in there.

I dig this chart a lot. Especially the inclusion of Yuck and Slaughterhouse. Plus some Sigur Ros love is always good
