Top 100 Greatest Music Albums
by swhaze

I know that a lot of you will not like my list. My tastes in music are super diverse. They always have been. In high school I loved both gangster rap and 1960's folk music. You are going to see a mix of pop, country, classic rock, metal, rap, and rock and roll. This is nothing more than a list of what I like to listen to.

A judgment is a statement of value, of approval or disapproval, and people judge all the time. The term is often viewed negatively, especially when individuals judge other individuals. “You worry too much about your lawn, Bob” is a judgment that may be offensive, whether true or not. (It's true. Bob does worry about his lawn too much).

A lot of judgments are based on taste, which means, “I like something because I like it.” No reasons necessary. A taste-decision doesn’t demand sound reasons to support it. When someone says, “I hate country music,” they are offering a taste-based judgment, when they may not have a solid understanding of the conventions and criteria used to evaluate country music in a fair manner. It’s simply a matter of personal preference, an unsupported opinion. It's a matter of taste.

I am also working my way through the Top Overall 1000 albums here on BEA. As I hear things I like I will add them here,

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 77.4/100, a mean average of 73.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.3/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 15.4.

More rock-oriented than I hoped judging from your intro, but nonetheless an exciting list.

Really wanted to give you high rating because of Ace of spades in top 20, but Katy Perry, cmon. So good taste but with several nonsensical albums IMHO. Ofc, you listen to what you like and no offence meant.

Nothing too surprising or new, but you have a nice collection of albums here. Gotta love a man who truly appreciates the Beastie Boys as well! You should try looking more outside of the top 1000.

Maybe some of the compilation albums you could change for studio albums. Loved seeing the classic Rock N Roll albums A great chart. I'm not really a Beastie Boys fan.

Nice chart! Very good top ten, really. Moreover, it was everything almost perfect until I saw One in the 17 place. I mean, the compilations, for me, are not necessary, and it makes your chart unoriginal and fake. It also happens with the Bob Marley compilation. That is my opinion, of course. The rest is very good, with many unknown albums for me, that make the rest of the chart really interesting. I will defenitely try one. The variety of music in your chart is something to highlight too. So, great chart!

Lack of metal and country, though aforementioned as being included. Your hip-hop picks are nice, though I think you could throw some more modern stuff in too. Pop choices are fresh to see, though a little predictable. Yeah, I think this could be a little more diverse, but it's okay.

I like that you have included the Doors and Joy Division high up but I cannot understand why you included two Skrillex albums

I've been seeing this list grow. It's really cool to see an interesting variety of classics, pop hits, and hidden gems.
