Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 84.6/100, a mean average of 84.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 84.0/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.7.

Lots of 60s and 70s quality... You'll disagree, but I think you overrate Yes.

The deep superficiality of Rilke, no?

I know, man. The first time I heard Close to the Edge, I thought it was longwinded and full of filler. The more I listened, the better and better it sounded, and it eventually became one of my very favorite albums.

Your chart made me smile. It was a trip down memory lane. I had almost all of your 60s and 70s and 80s albums in my collection back then and I only had about 400 albums at the most. I am slightly surprised that you picked Benefit over Aqualung and Thick As A Brick and picked the Low Spark over John Barleycorn. I do like them all however and would listen to them all.

Few albums I never heard before: this is the type of chart I like most so I'd discover something new (for me)... I never listened to Ten Years After before and they're brilliant. Thanks.

"Close to the Edge" was one of my favorite albums in high school, I haven't listened to it in a long time but still, it was such a great prog rock album, I think that it is their best.
