Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

Good chart, interesting to see Agaetis Byrjun placed so highly - for me it is an album I admire rather than enjoy. As your music taste seems to be quite similar to mine, may I suggest you expand on Beach House and try other psychedelic bands such as Tame Impala and Animal Collective?
As a last suggestion, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea is an album that I was extremely wary of at first due to the overtly emotional lyrics and the unconventional singing style of Jeff Mangum, but repeatedly listening to it has convinced me it is the best album I've heard, and this is coming from a die-hard Radiohead fan.

I actually like Viva La Vida better than Parachutes or A Rush of Blood... Never the less, this is a great great list, the only band on here that I just haven't "gotten" yet is the Arctic Monkeys. I'll give them another spin... one day I might come around.

Amazing chart, i just love it when i saw the national in it. But Viva la Vida? it's an amazing album, but a rush blood and parachutes are much much better. Still great chart
