A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. Not too shabby! I was especially pleased to see Metallica's KILL 'EM ALL in there! And, yes, Katy Perry is pop fluff...but, it's pop fluff done to perfection. Ain't nuthin' wrong with that.
