Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

A lot of Beatles will always get a good rating from me.

I don't usually rate charts that are really classic-heavy, but the fact that you have all these Beatles and Beach Boys albums here and Slanted and Enchanted is still at No. 1 is great.

Some great albums in here but I don't understand where you're coming from in general. Aside from this chart some of the ratings you have given classic albums are just odd. I've seen some of them for records by the likes of Peter Gabriel(so), Prince(parade) and Carole King(Tapestry, and they are just the ones I've noticed) and are either plain spiteful or just bizarre. I find it odd that someone who can appreciate so much great music can also be so ridiculously negative towards other great sounds. Why don't you leave a comment to explain why you feel that way about them? By the way, why only 40 albums?
