Top 40 Greatest Music Albums
by dholl Unknown

This chart has one rule: one-entry-per-artist (otherwise Floyd, Psykovsky & Neubauten would dominate the top 20). At some point I'll increase it to a top 100 so the likes of La Femme, Vangelis, Basinksi, Godspeed with classic grunge/metal like Soundgarden, Nirvana, Metallica & Pearl Jam and the rest get a look-in.

Incredible pulse-music, with clever use of phasing to create more movement. For more good Reich also check out Drumming. Best piece: impossible to separate Music for 18 Musicians, it's one long hypnotic trip. [First added to this chart: 11/30/2018]

80's Sonic Youth has a very special dark visceral energy, Confusion is Sex almost made it but Sister gets the nod...also close were Bad Moon Rising & Evol, like Radiohead above that's a fine run of 4 memorable albums in a row. And in a reverse-effect to OK Computer once Daydream Nation came it kinda killed that raw darkness they had. Best song: Seven...SEVEN! I mean Stereo Sanctity...be prepared for the greatest jam-out of any rock song ever. [First added to this chart: 11/30/2018]

People call this album difficult, but from the very first bars I heard (the signature call-out from the title song) I was hooked. This is grand story-telling without words. Best piece: Sanctuary just about edges out the title track. [First added to this chart: 11/30/2018]

Sun Ra showed us other worlds than these...but who knows what his best album is, he made so many! Languidity (sic) for me...bursting with colours and easy languidness, best: There Are Other Worlds [First added to this chart: 11/30/2018]

HAVE IT! I believe this album is responsible for my perma-tinnitus, but I still love it anyway. Apparently the hardcore Slayer faithful aren't so keen, but I put this down to a blind loyalty to Dave Lombardo. Bostaph's drumming for me is next-level, and everyone is on fire, Araya is at his most infectious. Best: 213 [First added to this chart: 11/30/2018]

With Zep it's III, and with The Doors it's L.A Woman. Stronger musically, vocally and songsmithery than any other Doors LP. Best: Been Down So Long [First added to this chart: 11/30/2018]

It's tricky to keep track of Glass's output. Dancepieces marries the best of the best: taking select pieces from The Upper Room (which are shorter variations of the long Dance pieces) and Glassworks. Best: Dance IX [First added to this chart: 11/30/2018]

First time I heard about Lana Del Rey was the media salivating to tell us how she bombed at a live show with terrible singing. I then click(baited) the link and while recognising she was having an off day I was intrigued by the song (Video Games)...thanks to youtube I went on a bit of a journey and turns out I love her musik! Especially the early stuff, she's naturally subversive (in that she doesn't mean to be). Best: Put me in a Movie [First added to this chart: 11/30/2018]
