Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

Ahhh what a lovely chart!! Especially the Talk Talk placement; great work on the one sentence notes too. Seeing as your chart is chock-full of the classics and you're asking for recommendations I thought I'd give you a few of my underground faves that you might enjoy:

I think the best word to describe this chart is "solid." It seems indisputable that you have awesome music taste.
(Also, just a fun fact: your chart and mine are two of only ten on the site to include In a Perfect World by Kodaline. And we have 15 albums total in common. So good job. That is all.)

I like it. Great taste in music. I like the mix of classic bands like the Beatles, Floyd, Bowie, and Dylan and also new bands like Radiohead, Coldplay, and Sufjan Stevens. I feel like you would like Muse. They're similar to Radiohead and Coldplay, two bands you clearly love.

Big pluses for Supertramp, Tame Impala, Sufjan Stevens, and Talk Talk. It's obvious this chart is personal, which is a very good thing. Have you listened to The Flaming Lips? I feel like you'd enjoy their music. Try Good Morning Spider by Sparklehorse as well, it's an amazing record.
