It was undoubtedly a difficult period for the Stones, as they had just weathered the storm of Brian Jones' death and a search for his replacement. Nevertheless, it was perfect timing for the entrance of guitarist Mick Taylor into the band, being that the era's music was defined by strong musicianship and songs with extended time and eclectic guitar solos. Sticky Fingers wasn't the first Stones' album to feature Taylor, but it was the first studio album on which he played throughout. And a strong presence he was. His lead work alongside the signature riffs and rhythms of Keith Richards helped to make it one of the Stones' best albums.

The start to "Brown Sugar" immediately displays the synchronized coherence in the playing of both, a unity that sustains throughout the album, especially in the lethargic and heavy "Sway," the frenzied rocker "Bitch," and the dreamy road song "Moonlight Mile." There are no filler songs here at all. Wyman and Watts are at the top of their rhythm game, and the horns, used in all the right places, add another dimension to the music.

The studio jam that evolved into "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" was, and still is, a total gem, one that fans didn't anticipate from a band that had been a lyrical, hit making machine before this. It was 1971; the onset of a new Stones' era, and their sound was expanding and evolving. Much of the album is lethargic and drug induced, both musically and lyrically. But paradoxically, it's some of the finest music of their career, with a potpourri of bluesy, dreamy, and hard rocking songs amid colorful lyricism. [First added to this chart: 07/27/2021]

Really love your chart! Although you have very similar tastes to mine overall, there are plenty in the rock/blues genres here I haven't heard yet so I must check them out. Took me on a journey. Definitely heavily 70s, but I'd agree it is the best decade for music hands down.

Lots of good albums here. I just started listening to "Home Plate" and also been getting into Steely Dan recently. The music is a good feeling to me!
