My most-listened to of the year, and not a note wrong - weirdly addictive. To be enjoyed with a knowing collegiate smirk on your face. The Dan have always had excellent lyrics, without equal in the genre, but here they set those cynical poems to easily the most fun music they ever recorded.

Lyrically and conceptually the greatest album of all time (in only 59 lines!), with some of the best-thought-out, perfectly crafted music ever written as its vehicle.

Not necessarily the most impressive, original or influential, but everything came together to give the strongest set of melodic art rock songs ever written. Every song (except, ironically, the single "Dreamer") is a highlight. Surprisingly cohesive too, and dark but never depressing.

The definite dark-side-of-love song cycle, with a selection of universally excellent songs to capture it. The singles are deservedly well-documented, but the side-ending "Songbird" and "Gold Dust Woman" are just as worthwhile.
