Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

I'm loving your appreciation of the artistic merit in quality electronic music. Burial is quite possibly a musical genius and Aphex Twin has the runs on the board as an innovator from way back. But I'm also impressed with the recognition of Immunity by Jon Hopkins which I think is a masterpiece and shows a real promise in the evolution of his art. I am wondering if you were a fan of The Field at all. He is an artist that I rate very highly for the subtleties his music. The looping can be a bit repetitive for some but it really rewards immersion with headphones.

A lot of classics, but some damn fine ones. Love seeing Wire up so high. A Saucerful of Secrets is an interesting choice as well. Nice job!
