July 2021: "I'm a KSI fan. I have watched every single one of his videos, I look up to him, I even wear bandanas regularly like him. That being said, I feel like although the music is certainly one of his main talents and passions and careers, the content is a biproduct of it. Critics have said the album lives up to its name, but for me it only does on commercial terms: every song tries (in at least one way) to be a radio hit. Most of the songs doesn't have staying power nor something to behold. The minority does though: Really Love is clearly the highlight (with the legend Craig David singing a stellar chorus and JJ actually sounding clean on that house beat - normally a thing I don't even like); Don't Play features cool small melodies and Anne-Marie does a good job capturing a lot of them, though a part of the hook sounds like a soulless rip off of BSB's Quit Playing Games; You has arguably the strongest hook in JJ's catalog and that's saying something (I just found myself humming those words more often), Holiday is a cute joint too even if he doesn't sing that great.
Maybe it is an unpopular opinion but idgaf: I prefer Dissimulation overall. It felt like a much more confident collection of songs that were more memorable. All Over The Place sounds like he's trying to show off how versatile he is without any backbone in those styles. And The KSI show sucked, especially with the way it was hyped. Though I'm glad JJ makes music, 'cause so far (even when a lot of it is filler) he's always cooked up something for me to enjoy."
Update 2024: Yeah his career is not at a high right now I will say that. Hasn't been the entire year. It would be beneficial if he took the L's from all the situations he has gotten into (loss to Fury, Wade situation, Lunchly etc), washed his ego away with humbleness, and focused on making good content and music. Anyways, beside having more songs I like, I only go back to two songs. You is still great (a mixture of lo-fi hip hop, electropop and a power-in-simplicity hook), No Time grew very very strongly on me (that hook is in the greats of trap music period), but I don't return to this album at all. When I relistened to the whole album, many of the songs I liked back in '21, sounds so vague and washed now, which is why it's no longer at 3 stars. I thankfully don't look up to him, but I still wear bandanas from time to time that's just me. I wish him and his team the best. [First added to this chart: 05/26/2025]
