"An excellent album from The Byrds. Younger than yesterday, really sees the band moving on. Opener, so you want to be a rock'n'roll star, is a sardonic take on the music business featuring trumpet from Hugh Masekela, and it's followed by, have you seen her face, one of Chris Hillman's best byrd so..."  [+]  Reply

"No doubts: this album is one of the best of the late 1960's. It has a pack of great tracks ("Mr. Soul", "Bluebird", Rock and Roll Woman" and "Broken Arrow"), along with a immense variability of music stiles"  Reply

"They never did anything like this before, nor after. Many say, and I agree to a certain extent, that this was an attempt to match 'Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band' by The Beatles. There may have been some self-inflicted peer pressure to do something psychedelic but I don't see 'Sgt Pepper' as..."  [+]  Reply

"This is an odd album in the stones cannon. After the excellent aftermath this record comes as bit of a disappointment. The weird thing is that there's nothing bad on here, it's just good all the way through. That's it's problem. It's so consistently good that nothing really stands out. Yesterday'..."  [+]  Reply

"I have listened to bits and pieces. I'll listen to this when I get the copy for my cd player, seems like something I would have to pay a lot of attention to. Are those 'Free Form Freak Outs' part of the album? They sound like a novel idea."  Reply

"Personally, this sounds fantastic. What else sounds like this? True sonic innovation, just like Pet Sounds before it. So why not as celebrated? Perhaps it's too weird for the masses. But a listen to Wind Chimes, for example, reveals a hauntingly beautiful deranged symphony. Quite frankly, it's Wo..."  [+]  Reply

"This record struggles with its brilliance, a more brilliant record I'm not sure there is, I never tire of it, I know all the words, my friends know all the words. Like some people know all the bits to The Sound Of Music, we know all the bits to Absolutely Free."  Reply

"Procol Harum's 1967 album is easily among the greatest debut-albums ever released. In fact, it could be the greatest. In a highly original way Procol Harum succeeded in combining raw rhythm'n blues with classical music. With Keith Reid's dark mysterious lyrics and Brooker's soulful voice these 19..."  [+]  Reply

"For better or worse, the most definitive, genre-identifying "acid rock" album ever made. Very different sound (less folkish) than Surrealistic Pillow due to writing credits shifting from Balin to Kantner. And as a final note, Jack Casady's bass playing here is some of the best in all of rock music."  [+]  Reply
