Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 17% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.2/100, a mean average of 74.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.4.

Misheard Lyrics: I scratch my ass against the wall
Actual Lyrics: I scratch my accidents into the wall
Jawbreaker is an appropriate name. Its harsh exterior reveals colored layers of sickly sweetness. It was an underground band with a cult-following that was so rampant that it fervorously turned its back on the group the moment when the band cut a deal with Geffen and made this gem. Thankfully, with producer Rob Cavallo (Green Day, The Muffs, Goo Goo Dolls) at the helm, Jawbreaker made it's most focused and accessible album before fans screamed "sell-out" and all our rejected the band, leading to their implosion shortly afterwards.
The music is trademark Jawbreaker: Heavy guitars, throaty vocals, and very angsty lyrics and themes, which may be too much for the average listener. The production uplifts the group, with enough melodic hooks to keep the listener entertained until the Cavallo's trademark acoustic track at the end. The result sounds like a more angry American version of The Smiths. The lead singer's maudlin performance is packed with personal, self-attacking lyrics create an austere and mysterious atmosphere.
When the lyrics are too much, the vocal performance is still intriguing and the melodies are artfully crafted.
This is an incredibly influential record and certainly worth a listen.
Highly recommended.
Condensed to a 7" Single:
A-Side: Fireman
B-Side: Accident Prone
Stunning and blasting. Do not miss.
