Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.8/100, a mean average of 70.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.9.

Flagpole Sitta was the epitome of a fun 90s Indie hit... hehe... "Been around the world and found That only stupid people are breeding"... so so true...
The rest of the album has its moments. Not the worst album to have purchased over the years.

An example of how a massive hit can be a curse. Nobody saw this as any more.

An album that had one great song on it (Flagpole Sitta), with a few other nice songs, and not much staying power, but was definitive of alternative rock in 1998.

I had heard the hit song "Flagpole Sitta" before but wouldn't have been able to tell you who sang it or even the name of the song before today. Such a great treat to find such a quality album.

Definitely better than the one hit it produced. And beyond just this album their other two were very solid.
