Jeff Mangum's odd tale of sex, death, love, and youth and how they are all beautiful and necessary to life and the world touches me every time I listen to this. The pinnacle of emotional storytelling through an album.

This sonic masterpiece documents the human race through Roger Waters' lyrics, the various cries in the album, be they the background vocalists, Clare Torry, or David Gilmour on "Time", and the sympathy for the loonies. The sound effects and interviews really push this one over the edge for me.

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 84.1/100, a mean average of 83.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 83.0/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 10.4.

Nice list. I have to same problem of choosing tons of rock music and forgetting the great rap, jazz, and country albums that have been produced. Wu-Tang and Nas are good choices though.

Fairly standard choices, but that doesn't mean it's not got variety. Shall we add Meatloaf to make it less 'mainstream'? Great chart.
