I don't worry about what critics call best albums. This is mine and only my opinion on albums I think are timeless based on the entire album's body of work--not just one great single. I'm 44 and have been an avid musician and audiophile most of my existence. Take it for what it is--and it can change daily, but these albums are always needed.

The only decent pure tape to vinyl pressing is; 1977 US Pressing JC34474 COLUMBIA.
Otherwise stick to the Japanese 1st CD through 1994 on all CD's, because every other vinyl LP is just sourced from that remaster by Doug Stax remaster that has been used since it was digitized for CD. [First added to this chart: 06/20/2014]

Original UK LP Release. Bowie was so far ahead of everyone and this album from his Berlin Trilogy proves it. I could list about 3 more Bowie album on this list.

Mobile Fidelity Release on Gold Cd or original LP. Steve Winwood, Clapton, Ginger Baker…I mean, that's 3 of the best ever and the songs on this album show it.
