Digital Solutions

Model 500

Juan Atkins has been around electronic music for quite awhile. The guy has been a major force in the techno scene (maybe even the creator of the genre, depending on who you ask), so a new release from him under the Model 500 pseudonym is a pretty big deal. Digital Solutions lives up to the hype it generates, Atkins may have aged, but the guy can still create some pretty spectacular stuff. Is he forging new ground? Not particularly, but what he's doing, he's doing exceptionally well. Creating techno music that deep and textured, an album that keeps you interested pretty much through the whole thing, all culminating to a big ending with a thick shredding guitar solo over Atkins' production, which kind of sounds like a blending of the old and the new together. Atkins didn't just phone it in and create something he could release just on the strength of his name, he created something interesting and something great, and that's pretty admirable. @dbz - yea dude, the new Atkins is pretty sweet too.

@mecca - I think I need to relisten to the U.S. Girls album, I liked it a lot, might eventually crack the top-100.

Man, you put some serious work into this. All those informative notes. I think the bulk of these that I know would fall into my own honorable mentions chart if I made one. Was surprised Sleater Kinney and US Girls couldn't crack your top 100.
