Top 20 Greatest Music Albums
by mtr1979
A note from the site says that a chart can get better ratings if it doesn't include too many albums from one decade. Oh, well. The '70s, especially early-to-mid, were the height of great rock music and that's where the vast majority of my album picks are from. I couldn't care less if it gets lower ratings because of that. You will also notice the lack of Beatles albums from my chart. I do not dispute their greatness nor their influence on rock n' roll or their place in its history; I just don't like their music, with a few exceptions. Deal With the Preacher should be; it's a great song that often gets overlooked. I've seen Bad Company twice and they put on a great show, reproducing their studio sound very well.

There is not a single bad song on this album. Ronnie Montrose was as good as they come and never got the credit he deserved. This album is full of outstanding rock songs from beginning to end. Sammy Hagar's best work, as well. It's too bad their few follow up albums never measured up.

My favorite album from my favorite band. An iconic debut album, very close to being a greatest hits album in its own right. The only weak song is The Way I Choose, but even it fits with the rest of the album somehow. How it only ranks 20th in 1974 on this site is beyond me, behind Richard & Linda Thompson? Seriously? Behind Camel's Mirage? I've listened to Mirage. It's not bad, if you like elevator music or anonymous waiting on hold music.

This album has the double-edged sword of being a double album. Some of the greatest rock songs ever recorded, along with crap like Boogie With Stu and Bron-Yr-Aur. Were it not for those two songs and Black Country Woman, it might have been number 1.

The best Pink Floyd album, period. You can have The Wall and Animals. This is great from beginning to end and tells a great story about life.

A band that, in my opinion, never got the respect it deserved. I saw them on this tour in 1977 and they rocked. The title track just launches into the stratosphere and stays there. Love to Love is another classic that can't be played loud enough. This was their best album.

There is no finer rock song in history than Xanadu. The drumming is phenomenal, as is the guitar and bass. Lee's vocals complement the music perfectly. I know Rush was more of a guys band, but so what? I saw them on this tour in 1977 and I've never forgotten it.

Their best album, by far. Not a bad song on it. Great lyrics, great sound. One of the iconic albums of the '70s. The list of great debut albums recorded in the 1970s will never be approached by any other decade.

The greatest AC/DC album with their best lead singer. This album kicks ass, plain and simple. While the rest of the country was listening to the crap known as disco, my buddies and I were listening to this.
