Top 20 Greatest Music Albums
by mtr1979
A note from the site says that a chart can get better ratings if it doesn't include too many albums from one decade. Oh, well. The '70s, especially early-to-mid, were the height of great rock music and that's where the vast majority of my album picks are from. I couldn't care less if it gets lower ratings because of that. You will also notice the lack of Beatles albums from my chart. I do not dispute their greatness nor their influence on rock n' roll or their place in its history; I just don't like their music, with a few exceptions. Deal With the Preacher should be; it's a great song that often gets overlooked. I've seen Bad Company twice and they put on a great show, reproducing their studio sound very well.

There is not a single bad song on this album. Ronnie Montrose was as good as they come and never got the credit he deserved. This album is full of outstanding rock songs from beginning to end. Sammy Hagar's best work, as well. It's too bad their few follow up albums never measured up.

With the exception of The Cars, I couldn't stand the new wave/punk rock/whatever the hell you want to call it music that was appearing in the late '70s. Hated The Talking Heads, The Police, Pat Benatar, etc. Thank God Van Halen came along with this album.

The best album by Journey and the one that put them on the map. Every song is good and some are great. To me, they went downhill after this album, gearing their songs to teenage girls almost exclusively. This album, however, had some good rock songs and excellent guitar riffs. La Do Da is my personal favorite.

Even better than their debut album, Pronounced, which was outstanding. Don't Ask Me No Questions, Ballad of Curtis Loew, and Needle and the Spoon are my favorite tracks.

A great album, despite the odd mix of live and studio tracks and the way too long Mountain Jam. This is almost like a greatest hits album. Blue Sky is my favorite; a song about Dickey Betts' native American girlfriend of the same name and later wife. This album is just great summer time listening to, outdoors, drinking a cold beer, enjoying life.

Three albums in one year, and all very good. This was the best, IMO. Loved their bluesy/back country sound, even though they were from the San Francisco area. I was only 8 in 1969, so I wasn't listening to them then, but once I found out about them in the mid-70s, I became a big fan, thanks to albums like this one.
