Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

lethalnezzle I feel sorry about your ignorance condition. I'm not a bullied teen and I know all of Radiohead's song catalogue. They're my favourite band. If "Creep" was the only song I knew, OK Computer wouldn't be at the TOP of the list as it's obviously not on that album. Seems like you put very little thought into your comment.

In regards to the comment below, the subpar albums are obviously generational. This person is most likely a teenager and should therefore be cut a little bit of slack. Instead of ripping on Good Charlotte, why not suggest a better alternative? My guess: the good bands came courtesy of an older sibling or even parent possibly. Thus the old adage rings true: Listen to your elders!

I was reading this list and drinking Mountain Dew, slowly sipping and nodding, then I saw not one, but TWO Good Charlotte albums, and nearly spat my drink!
Either you like both good bands and intensely shitty bands, or you wanted to falsely gain cred by putting some high ranking albums on the list, even if you have never listened to them.

Why are people so negative to this chart? The chart contains a lot of Radiohead since they´re the best band in the world, it´s as simple as that. Even though you seem to have a slightly different music taste than me, it´s still a really decent chart as far as I´m concerned.

@alexgagne I like it how you said nothing about 8x Radiohead, 5x Muse 4x Beatles, 3x Alice In Chains, 3x Led Zeppelin (4.6 per artist) but when it's 5x Good Charlotte, 3x Sum 41 and 3x Green Day (3.67 per artist) suddenly there are too many albums per artist.
If you don't like his choices, just say it, don't try to wash him with bullshit.
