One of the greatest case studies of the human ego. Kanye wielded his then suffering reputation to create an album of me against the world. It contains his best beats, his best societal analysis (Gorgeous, So Appalled), and his best humor (Monster, Devil in a New Dress), and introspection (Runaway, Power). The work truly deserves a "toast for the" biggest douchebag of them all.

John Lennon was reincarnated as an Australian man named Kevin Parker, who through a journey of acid and mistakes with women in his life birthed Lonerism. It is the magnum opus of modern psychedelic rock. The whole album feels like one long trip, songs do not even seem separate from each other.
While the music creates a lush dream, the lyrics deliver the punch to the emotions. This combined to give Kevin Parker "the day we broke through." [First added to this chart: 04/07/2016]

At first, it took a while to get this album. However, introspection and themes came more to light with ever listen. While Channel Orange was an accomplishment sonically, Blonde brought a unified theme of heartbreak to the table.

"We were just circling through life." Every time I listen to this record I am immediately brought back to my high school and early college years, an out of place kid trying to do anything to fit in. Along with fitting in, Kendrick deals with themes of poverty, guilt, and doubt over one's moral standing The delivery of these themes into descriptive language makes Good Kid Maad City is one of the best lyrical works of all time.

The album transports you to the static, glowing orange world of its interludes. The first half of the album "Sweet Life" "Super Rich Kids" and "Sierra Leone" sonically puts you in love on a warm California day in the golden hour before the sun sets beyond the horizon. Meanwhile, the second half brings you into the dark night world, the dreams of the first half-shattered. Pyramid and Pink Matter foreshadow Frank's ability in illustrating both mental torments of practical heartbreak and existential doubt that is honed in on Blonde.

Vampire Weekend has often been criticized by "woke" critics as the epitome of privileged white men with too much time on their hand. If this is the case, Erza Koenig & company perfectly reflected the inner dialogues of this man.
Modern Vampires beautifully tells the perspective of an endlessly romantic man who is infinitely pessimistic. The "quasi-conversations" nail this home: one can feel the helplessness when Koenig sings of "telling the NYTimes he's been to pieces," or the utter despair of the admission that "I was made to live without you" to a fading flame. Koenig incredibly uses analogy and imagery to hammer home this point singing of "frozen beaches," and the flickering of the television after yet another night of depression. Perhaps his greatest lyrical achievement is in the masterful "Hey Ya" where he links dylanesque abstract religious imagery to a cautious and passionate new feeling. The greatest lyrical performance of their career is perhaps encapsulated by "In the dark of this place/ There's the glow of your face
There's the dust on the screen/Of this broken machine/ And I can't help but feel/That I've made some mistake/But I let it go/Ya Hey.
Finally like any great albums of lyrics, Vampire Weekend matched it with a refined modern day Graceland sound that superseded its' college sound. [First added to this chart: 04/07/2016]

The first single of the album "Conrad Tokyo" rang in the best political album of the Trump era yet by reasoning that such protest was in vain "as if this country wasn't always ruined." We Got It has some of Tribe's greatest beats whilst being in the same analysis of the modern black man lineage as To Pimp a Butterfly. However, the lyrics don't end at this or criticism of Trump, as Tribe maintains the same wit and self-referential aspects in their last album as they did in their first. A brilliant album about America in the last effort of one of the greatest artists in a wholly American art form.

Depression Cherry is way too low. Summertime '06 isnt that great of an album but other than that, I think this chart is great. Agreed with Acid Rap, all highschool/early college nostalgia
