Hype. It warps the critical perspective. So I took the disc off the player and left it for a week. I've listened to more music in the last week than, well, ever. So I put on this "new" Beach Boys album to give it a REAL listen. Pretending I've never heard the brothers/cousins/friends before.
Holy sh*t. This is like the best album...ever. It would have been the best album of 1967 and it sure as hell is easily the best album of the new decade. Snippets on individual albums released since '67 and Brian's attempt to recreate the record in 2004 doesn't prepare you for these tracks assembled together properly. Cheated for 40 years. Stop worrying about it's lost impact over those years. Enjoy the fact that popular music needs this album now more than ever. [First added to this chart: 12/22/2011]

I love this album. Infectious pop. Finely crafted tunes that gets away from their R&B leanings to straight up radio friendly Pop. I'd rate this just below Songs About Jane.

Tough to take the word of a guy who'd listen to an album of a band's lead singer breathing softly. A fun party record.

Songwriting is a craft. Some work hard at it, some are composers that throw together lyrics because they have to, then their are the masters. Paul Simon is one of THE masters of his craft. This album proves it yet again.
