Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by Spyglass (2020)

My chart is ordered from best to worst. These albums I have chosen are albums that go above and beyond the boundaries of music, and have brilliance to share in whatever forms they take. All of the albums I've chosen are very special to me in one way or another, even if they're outside of my comfort zone, because a comfort zone doesn't matter when you're trying to comprehend all forms of music.

I've added little stories that describe my feelings when listening to each album. They're quite odd, but I love a little odd now and then.

"I went out for a drive to the bar, and a song about a stairway to heaven played on the radio in my truck. When the song was over, I turned the radio off to let the song soak in my mind. The scenery I had experienced when hearing the song lingered in my mind until I opened the bar doors, reminded of the western saloon entrance. I saw Music himself drinking a gin and tonic. He wasn't the Devil, contrary to most people's assumption, but that dazzling grin on his face carried a vanity unmatched. Despite the shudder down my spine, I sat down next to him and bought a drink. As soon as I sat down, I heard that same strange song from the radio playing in the bar. I asked Music, 'How did you write something so incredible?' He showed me that infamous grin of his and simply replied. 'God makes better music than the devil.'"

"Theres no force like tomorrow. They say we control the future, and others say that the future is predestined. I don't think it matters. The truth is somewhere in between. We can't predict the future, but there's no force that decides everything for us. The answer itself is astral, so we need to do what we can to pioneer both the past and the present, and to do that we need to change the past. We need to redefine romance, push the guitars past their physical and sonic limits, and remind the world that the answers to the whole world lie in the things no one has ever done before."

"I'm ready to travel the world. I've been to the world of sadness and sang the ancient ballads of Africa, I've traveled to England and taken their fairy tales and turned them into memorable melodies, and now I'm ready to do so much more. I want to go above and beyond what I've mastered. I have to do more. How can I call myself a true artist if I can't go beyond my horizons? Each horizon is only one step in a huge journey, one that overwhelms and excites me."

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 1% of all charts on This chart has a mean average rating of 91.0/100. The trimmed mean (excluding outliers) is 93.2/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.5.

The notes themselves deserves 110/100, brilliant work and a great list! As one trying to write something for my own chart for a veery loooong time, i had a great time going through it and tbh it inspired me!!!

And how beautifully this sums up Fleetwood Mac's Rumours:
''Let us all sing about how the hate we have for each other brings us together as friends.''

Love the notes throughout, they've made me reappraise some albums I tend to keep overlooking. Also, we have very little albums in common, which always excites me. Few things are as exciting as new discoveries.
