Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

Dude awesome list! The top four were fantastic. We have 31 in common and your chart is only 50 albums. I can't even imagine once you get it to 100.

Good mix of each decade, keeps the list interesting. Lots of stuff I'd expect with a few surprises. Seems personal, but still accessible. Basically, a really good chart.
Has all the influential classics and a couple of nice surprises. Like your chart
Great choices, this is one of my favourite charts. Really like the comments, but would love to see them expanded.

With a few exceptions (Beatles, Led Zeppelin) has a lot of super duper elitist stuff. Is that by design or...?
