"I think I figured out why this album falls short of being great. Its trying too hard to be deep and meaningful. Its clear from the start that Jon Hopkins is building some sort of narrative and cinematic experience with this album, like going beyond the infinite and witnessing the truth of the uni..."  [+]  Reply

""It's cool hearing the topics discussed by someone who is actually transgender, but keep in mind the Replacements released Androgynous 30 years ago." Believe it or not, "Androgynous" is about androgyny not transgender. It's literally about how gender doesn't (or shouldn't) define how people dress..."  [+]  Reply

"Jai Raj Paul appeared on MySpace in 2007 but became famous in 2010, with a contract with XL Recordings. Then there was the leak that changed everything: on Bandcamp, a collection of songs by Jai, the press is excited and announces the release of a long-awaited debut album. In 2019, after seven ye..."  [+]  Reply

"I thought that this was a great album, one of my personal favorites of the 2010s! I was surprised this was a debut album, as most songs are fantastic, with really great, developed pop hooks and vocal melodies. Not every song is as fantastic as the best (I couldn't get into "Less Than Thou"), but ..."  [+]  Reply

"This album is somewhat experimental, but in nearly all the wrong ways. The minute or so long tracks of Jack rambling add nothing to the album (they're also really cheesy and cliched). The last track "Humoresque" is a real low point, because although a lot of the other tracks don't really take off..."  [+]  Reply

"I really enjoyed this album. It's my favourite of the year so far. The lyrics are incredible throughout, and I think there is more 'music' than on 'A Crow Looked At Me'. I'd definitely recommend giving it a listen, especially for 'Distortion' and 'Now Only' (the latter of which references late-ni..."  [+]  Reply
