Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 64.8/100, a mean average of 62.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 63.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 18.6.

I'll take Neil with Booker T and the MGs over him with Pearl Jam. I'll also take his version of Kraftwerk so what do I know?

This is supposed to be a soul album. The only problem with that is that there is no soul to be found here. There is also a surprising lack of chemistry between Neil Young and Booker T. & the M.G.'s. It's not surprising to me that the best song on here was recorded with Crazy Horse, Goin' Home, because it flowed. Every other song feels so stilted. But even Goin' Home is just really useless and boring. This one is definitely one to skip as it's not even bad enough to be of note. At least Trans is so bad that you can get a good laugh or two in before your inevitable plunge into insanity. Are You Passionate? does not leave me with any sort of feeling. Besides resentment towards Neil Young for wasting an hour of my life.
