Top 100 Greatest Music Albums
by sulmagnificent

This is not pressure induced, I love the Who, Beatles and Rolling Stones so much about them make them the greatest bands that ever existed. The reason for that is that they lived in a society with the perfect environment, weather and soil for the seeds of American Blues, Country, and Rock n' Roll to flourish. Pop could be intelligent and unobnoxious at the same time.

The fact that it is best listened to high as a kite, locked in your room, forgetting your homework while playing Counterstrike, screaming at the top of your lungs and ignoring your confused teammates tells you more than you need to know about this album, in fact it tells you more than you need to know about my teenage years and how much I suck at 1st person shooter games. No other album have I enjoyed a cigarrete with while waiting in traffic on the way to work on a hot, humid and swampy environment of Florida as much as with this album. This album captures the Blues (Stop Breaking Down), Gospel (Let it Loose), the South (Sweet Virginia), America (Tumbling Dice), and Rock and Roll (Rip This Joint) perfectly. The exile concept is fun too. I just can't believe this was written in the South of France and not in a Baptist church in a swampy alternate version of America on a different planet (I Just Wanna See his Face)! Post-punk, punk with brains or art punk, critics seem to want to find a way tag these guys as punk rockers. But this album shows dual guitars instead of minimalist guitar and "Life in the hive puckered up my night/The kiss of death, the embrace of life/Ooo there I stand neath the Marquee Moon,/Hesitating" instead of "Mummy! I'm not an animal!I'm Not An Animal!/I'm not an animal". Aw who cares what its called, all I know is that I like em guitars. [First added to this chart: 04/14/2013]

Hard to say anything much about this album that has not already been said. Yes everybody knows about it. Yes the background to the album has influenced my decision. But only because it serves as an explanation to the extraordinary uniqueness of this beautiful, diverse and compelling pop album. [First added to this chart: 10/16/2013]

Catchy, fun, young, and outrageously cool. Not one bad tune. The only uninspired track was cut out on my version of the disc. People say Led Zeppelin best epitomized rock, I beg to differ. Led Zeppelin is bloated, pretentious, skillful and heavy. This album reminds why you want to pick up a guitar or take to the microphone to clear your soul.It reminds you of whats its like to have friends and a good time not about how Vikings sailed around the Atlantic ocean! I know, typical of non-black man to have this album listed as the greatest hip-hop album of time. This was always one of my favorites but it took several years to realize just how much I love this album. I have listened to it at hundreds of times, and it is still just as fresh as when I first listened to it. This of course remains true for the rest of my top ten, but this has been in my charts from the beginning slowly rising. It's honestly only a matter of time before it becomes my top pick.

Now for why this album is amazing, I can't really explain it here mainly because it would take too long and also because many others have done so better than I ever could. Why does it amaze me? Well because I like to be inspired and this is the most inspirational album on this list safe perhaps How I Got Over. And I don't mean a corny, happy, inspirational, I mean a real, authentic, dark, humanly heartbreaking inspirational. That's what makes this album so special

This choice is definitely more biased than any of the other choices in this list, I just had a special connection with this album that few have ever seemed to have. The lyrical content of this album touched me deeply, the only album to do so to this extent besides Darkness on The Edge of Town. Same illustration of the despair and desolation that is the American dream, but under all that desperation a hope still remains.. [First added to this chart: 04/14/2013]

I like this one mainly for the music, the catchy hooks, and the easy-to-relate-to lyrics. This is one of those albums that really make you feel like you are not alone, or rather, will never be alone. [First added to this chart: 04/14/2013]

Revolver was always my favorite and I thought this one is overrated. Now I have changed my mind. Sure Revolver is priceless perfection, but I feel that The Beatles improved on its predecessor with an addition of grandeur, besides what is logically reasonable, this false sense of grandeur does add something to it that is hard to explain. Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 3% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 89.6/100, a mean average of 91.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 90.9/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 8.1.

As much as it's a shame that you don't like MJ, it's a rare accomplishment to make such an exceptionally fantastic list. Looove your sense of humor.

Haha, it's alright on your point deduction for Drake. Either you love him or you hate him, can't really force it upon anyone.

I enjoy your chart, too! I appreciate how clear and concise your notes are! The first sentence for your note for Exile on Main St. puts the image directly in my mind! Great job!
