Not complete. Rating albums as such, not if singles are good.

For hip-hop/rap I find myself liking singles for a majority of artists, but these albums so far are solid (above a 75 rating).

Please mock me for my ignorance. Just really starting out with actually giving this genre more respect.

From

Graeme2 03/31/2018 18:22 in Most Essential Hip Hop Albums of the 2010s

“I've had difficulty getting into a lot of rap music of the 2010s. Kanye was easy cause he's not really from the 2010s. Same with Killer Mike, etc. It took me about 2 to 3 years to see the brilliance of Kendrick Lamar's music (It felt novel, but not brilliant) beyond his lyrics (which are amazing).…”

“I personally think whatever order the votes get is what chooses the next few months? idk... that way you don't have to vote again and again... then again there's pros/cons to that too... Like it'd be: April: Luigi May: Hayden etc. I wouldn't mind participating, although I think most people would…”

“I kinda wish this was: tell me more about any other rapper. hehe. Mostly kidding. I'd love to hear more about why people love Kanye. I don't dislike him, but as far as hip-hop/rap music, he's not who I would put a the top... Now I say this being totally uneducated. Maybe he's someone I should look…”

Some recommended albums to start with that you haven't rated:

A Tribe Called Quest: Midnight Marauders, The Low End Theory, People's Instinctive Travels And The Paths Of Rhythm
Digable Planets: Blowout Commb, Reachin' (A New Refutation Of Time And Space)
Mos Def: Black On Both Sides, The Ecstatic
DOOM: Operation Doomsday, Mm.. Food, Madvillainy
The Roots: Undun, How I Got Over, Game Theory
J Dilla: Donuts [an instrumental album]
GZA: Liquid Swords

Where to go next would depend on which of these you like.

Also I see you've already rated a bunch of good hip-hop albums highly that aren't on this chart yet for one reason or another.

I like it so far. I might have to make one of these as well. You have to check out MF Doom if you haven't, especially the Madvillainy record.
