An enthralling musical experience. "The White Album" confounded expectations due to it's simplicity and stripped down production, it was the exact opposite of Sgt.Pepper. Each song is an entity unto itself. It feel like a collection of solo songs rather than a Beatles album. It maneuvers through rock,blues,folk,country,avant-garde and beyond. An eccentric patchwork of twists and turns. [First added to this chart: 03/09/2012]

"Village Green Preservation Society" is the Kinks' masterwork. Described as "a concept album lamenting the passing of old-fashioned English traditions". The creative processes was against the prevailing musical climate in 1968. Opening with the title track, the tone of the album is set. A whimsical album containing catchy songs with stunning arrangements. A collection of wistful tunes. This charming album reflects a time of innocence and optimism that was soon to erode away. The Kinks at their creative height. [First added to this chart: 03/09/2012]

This album consisted entirely of original compositions by Rod Argent and Chris White."Odessey and Oracle" kicks off with the bright and poppy tune "Care of Cell 44", packed with fantastic harmony and soaring vocals. Lovely delicate "A Rose for Emily". The understated desperation of "Maybe After He's Gone" is quietly epic. The tremolo guitar and sweet harmonies of "Beechwood Park". Magical aura of"Brief Candles" The gloriously, well-layered piece of psychedelic pop "Hung Up On a Dream". Stellar a cappella with "Changes". The harpsichord and folk feel of "I Want Her, She Wants Me". A delightfully romantic pop fluff of "This Will Be Our Year". The darkly creepy, "Butcher's Tale (Western Front 1914)" features a Victorian Pump Organ dating from 1896. There is the catchy and bright "Friends of Mine" as well as the single "Time of the Season" which became a surprise hit in early 1969 that's filled with erotic breaths, free-love subtext, and a jazzy groove. There are no fillers on this album. [First added to this chart: 03/09/2012]

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 12% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.6/100, a mean average of 88.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 88.9/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 10.6.

Perfect choices and great comments. Maybe too much dominated by the Beatles but I love the Beatles so you won't hear me complain.

Thanks ... I will have to check them out. I remember my older brother listening to "Nice" once upon a time, he was a big fan of ELP.

Very good list! Many Kinks, Floyd, Beach Boys, Beatles, Yardbirds records, very good. Thanks for putting Wonderwall by G.H., that's a cool stuff. I'd recommend the Pretty Things, the Incredible String Band, the Soft MAchine or the Nice if you haven't listened to their records yet.
