They’ve been together since 1984 and they’ve always remained true to themselves. They’ve been through hair metal, grunge, 90s alternative, those awkward, like, five years that emo was popular, they’ve been through it all and they’ve continued to sound good. “I Bet On Sky" is not their best album, it’s not something earth-shattering that is going to make Dinosaur Jr. fans say that this is their best. However, this album is quite good. Dinosaur Jr. just always sounds good, no matter what. Now there are songs here and there that aren’t so great, and they can get slightly formulaic, but overall the album is still the same gritty, punching guitar-driven music that we’ve all come to know and love from Dinosaur Jr. And as usual, J Mascis’ guitar playing is superb. "After 8 months I still can't get enough of this album. I've held off on putting it in my top 10, but I think now it's going there. I've seen them live twice now, and am just stricken by how down to Earth they are."[+]Reply
"(As of 2/24/16) A 71/100? Really? This album might not have the energy that Badmotorfinger or Louder Than Love had, and it might not have the hits like Superunknown, but my god, a 71? This album might not have the energy that Badmotorfinger or Louder Than Love had, and it might not have the hits like Superunknown, but my god, a 71? Very underrated. It's leagues better than Down on the Upside, and you would have never guessed that there was a 16 odd year gap between that release and this one. The music is intelligent, the lyrics are esoteric, and the vocals are still simply Chris Cornell. This is a very good record and one of my favorites of 2012."[+]Reply

I hate it when a band or a musician just stagnates and makes the same album over and over again. Well, I shouldn’t say I hate it, because I’m a big fan of some bands that do exactly that, but it’s really nice when an artist tries to go into a different direction. John Mayer does exactly that on this album. There’s still remnants of the sound of John Mayer that you’ve come to know, but this album is overall different. It’s like John Mayer meets Neil Young. It leans more towards the acoustic sound with a slight hint of country thrown in. It’s not nearly as poppy as some of his past albums have been. It’s a very good album and I think this will bring some new fans to John Mayer. "[+]Reply
"A band that is gradually being uncovered. They have a lot of potential and I feel this album could be the start of many good things from the trio from Montreal."Reply

His music is great, his album “Gris-Gris" is one of the best you’ll ever hear. However this album is not. See, the issue with this album is that we’ve heard it all before. It’s the same old stuff from Dr. John, nothing really exciting or new. There was one exception though. The song “Getaway" is awesome. I mean it’s gritty, it’s reverbed all over the place with beautiful, yet raw guitar playing and Dr. John’s gritty voice singing over it. That is a great song. If the rest of the album had been like that, this would’ve been an incredible album. However it wasn’t, it was an alright album. This isn’t to say that the music was bad, it wasn’t, it’s just, nothing aside from “Getaway" stood out for me."[+]Reply
"On my opinion, it is the band's best album. Liza demonstrates deep and strong vocals that are highly emotional, and Brendan Perry shows tonns of musical mastery in arrangements and melodies, even more than on the previous albums."Reply

While the talking heads never employed an accompanyment of horns, they work quite well here as if a heads-extension Aside from that similarity, byrne and vincent alternate lead vocals. Some songs work better than others, but none "take off" in a way a major byrne or vincent (or both) fan might anticipate with such a pairing. I'd say the Byrne-led songs are better -- they have more melodic, musical and lyrical focus ("who", "i am an ape" and "lazarus" come to mind). Cool "cool water" vocals by st. vincent on "lazarus", the album's best track."[+]Reply
