"Sound & Fury is obviously a huge shift for Sturgill Simpson. Its sort of a throwback record to 80s rock, but there are some other elements in there too. Good album to play loud. I just found there are only 3-4 songs on the album that are memorable at all. Its a change that doesn't bother me, but ..."  [+]  Reply

"Talking to cat's, breakdowns in a tent, asking your doctor what their favourite band is, and worrying about the minutae of day-to-day life constitute the lyrical preoccupation's of this album. However, it is not sweetly sung, rather screamed, howled, and shouted whilst a roiling sea of noise swir..."  [+]  Reply

"A combination of the neko heard on "blacklisted" and "fox confessor brings the flood" is on display here. "people got a lot of nerve" and "this tornado loves you" might just be the best 2 songs from any album. This album shows many sides to neko, from the poetic side "I'm an owl on the sill in th..."  [+]  Reply

"Very good solo record. It runs slightly out of steam towards the end but for the most part it's a solid and eclectic album with nods to pop, soul, blues, jazz and rock."  Reply

"I agree that it is the same song over and over for an hour, but goddamn is it a fucking great song. There's not a ton of dynamic range, but Callahan finds new layers and ideas track after track. If you want a beautiful, poignant folk epic, this one doesn't disappoint."  Reply

"Trippy as hell. The first track is one of the absolute trippiest things I've ever had. The whole thing's got a whole disorienting, low-fi quality to it. Very special album. Blew my mind when I first listened to it."  Reply

"It lumbers out literally with a mostly-uninteresting "shanty for the arethusa", but after that, there's no let up. "billy liar" is a jaunty farce starting "Billy Liar's got his hands in his pockets / Staring over at the neighbor's, knickers down." Sarcastic ode "los angeles, i'm yours" backhanded..."  [+]  Reply
