Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 8% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.4/100, a mean average of 74.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.0.

Good album.
Album of the year, 2001
A big and a tad long album from a great songwriter in the vein of Boss, Uncle Bob, and Van the Man. No gimmicks, down to earth music with fine moods and sensibility for touching lyrics
Favorite Tracks:Answering Bell, The Rescue Blues, When The Stars Go Blue, Nobody Girl, Tina Toledo's Street Walkin' Blues, Goodnight Hollywood Blvd.
A good album spoiled by being too long with 3-4 tracks just filler material.
Not the critics choice, but mine. Simply his album with most good songs on.
Though a little too long--like every Ryan Adams album--this may be Adams's best album, song for song. The first half alone is as strong of a stretch as any artist could hope for.
Two weeks after the Twin Towers fell in 2001, Ryan Adams released Gold, a fact that seems almost impossible given how much the subject matter of this album is so directly related to the events and aftermath of 9-11 (obviously the songs were written much earlier). "New York, New York" became a touchstone for me as I processed my own anger and sadness over the people who died in the World Trade Center, as it is such an affectionate ode to the Big Apple, one that crackles with life and love and romance, the sights and smells of the city. I'm not a city person by nature, but "New York, New York" sheds some light on why a person would be.
Ryan Adams complained that the record company skimmed his double album, but in my opinion it should have been skimmed even more. When this album is good, its as good anything. But there is some songs that REALLY should have been skimmed. If you skip the bad songs(such as Enemy Fire,Touch Feel and Lose, and Toledos Walking Blues), its one of the best releases of the 2000s.
