still so underrated.

If you're looking for simple, truthful, no-frills stories invested in relationships and community (typified by empathetic top track "most people"), then you've come to the right band. Spun somewhere down the road from folk-tinged americana, I first ran into Dawes via 2011's "Nothing Is Wrong". I found that album late in 2011 and in only a few months its honest, direct and simple small band tunes rose to my top 20 of that year. Of course, i only found Dawes by the way of Middle Brother who performed my favorite album of 2011. Middle Brother is one of those "supergroups" formed from members of Delta Spirit, Deer Tick and Dawes. (Kind of wonder why their new band name didn't begin with a "D"??) I already had heard Deer Tick and decided to look into the other two groups. Dawes did not disappoint then and doesn't now. There are less instrumental flourishes this time around, but if you liked "Nothing Is Wrong", then you'll undoubtedly like this one.

Dawes. One of the most under-appreciated bands out there right now. They’ve pumped out some really good albums and have gotten little to no recognition for it. “North Hills" is one of my favorite albums of theirs, “Love Is All I Am", one of the songs off the album (and probably the best one) is an incredibly beautiful, honest, well-written song.
That’s one thing Dawes excels at: honest lyrics. Lyrics that sound like they’ve come straight from the heart. This album is full of good songs like that, of a great variety. A good example is “From A Window Seat", a song that I would imagine was probably written on an airplane, because it’s pretty much about sitting on an airplane and wondering where everyone is going and who they are. Overall, the album is really good, the songs are just pleasant to listen to. Really solid folk rock from band that consistently releases exactly that.
