Top 50 Greatest Music Albums by ducksyonthemoon
Chart still very much developing as I discover more and more music. Discovered The National (now one of my favourite bands) through a recommendation on this very website, and I am currently enjoying exploring the discography of Deerhunter thanks to a tip-off from dfulfo01 - the point I am trying to make is that if you feel you have a similar taste in music to me, don't hesitate to comment and recommend other bands, because I will give them a shot!
Please don't bite my head off for my bias towards certain bands *cough* Radiohead *cough*

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart is rated in the top 4% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 89.2/100, a mean average of 92.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 92.5/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.4.

This is a fantastic list of albums, I'll be buying a DEERHUNTER album on your recommendation. It's a very difficult choice the besy Arcade Fire album. I'm also only a new fan of THE NATIONAL saw a great Doco about them called Mistaken For Strangers you probably have seen.
Very good list
I'd recommend Justin Vernon's (Bon Iver) other projects like Volcano Choir's Repave which was my favorite of 2013. Local Natives is another great band I think you'd like (Gorilla Manor is their best). There are also some older bands that I think you would enjoy based on your modern favorites like The Cure's "Disintegration," The Smith's "The Queen is Dead," and The Velvet Underground's "The Velvet Underground." I'll check out Elbow, you seem to really like them, and I've seen a lot of others list them to.
Update: I listened to Elbow and found them a bit bland, but I'm trying Deerhunter's Halcyon Digest right now, and I really enjoy what I'm hearing. Some of it is a little slow, but it feels like something that will really grow on me.
Very nice chart, and very modern too !
We have similar taste, especially Elbow, Radiohead and Arcaded Fire
So much in common! Nice. Like to see where this goes from here for the next 50.
I think we have similar taste. I recommend : Things we Lost in the Fire , by Low
Nice list. I think we have a pretty similar taste in music. I am a big fan of Elbow, The National, Bon Iver and Radiohead. I like your high rating for The National's High Violet - probably one of my favourite albums to come out in recent years. I'd be interested to check out some of the albums I have not heard on your list.
Thanks dfulfo01, yeah there was a period when Alligator was my favourite National album too, and I still think some of the moments on Alligator top anything the band has done since - the entirety of 'Karen' and parts of 'Looking for Astronauts' and 'City Middle' are stunningly beautiful.
For me, I had always considered Neon Bible to be the weakest of Arcade Fire's albums until quite recently, when it finally hit me. 'Intervention' and 'Antichrist Television Blues' are two of my all-time favourite songs and the rest of the album is consistently excellent.
Lonerism and MPP are modern classics and fully warrant their place on this list, whilst I still highly regard the music of Bon Iver, despite liking them far less than I used to.
I have just done a little bit of Wikipedia research on Deerhunter and they seem to be a very well-reviewed band, so I will be sure to give them a listen :)
love your list. the national for me goes alligator>boxer>high violet. and neon bible over funeral is a little curious, but i love seeing bon iver, lonersim and MPP!
I look forward to seeing 100.
also you should check out deerhunter if you haven't already
