"Is it just me or did Oasis save all their best work for use as B-sides? As the sleevenotes tell us 'a B-side is no excuse not to care' - most of these songs are better than the well-known A-sides!" Highlight: a fight between Oasis' noisiest and rawest rocker 'Headshrinker' and Noel G's delicate ballad 'Talk Tonight'.(Read more of this review at Alan's Album Archives - see my profile page for more) [First added to this chart: 11/08/2011]

"This album's unfinished state is a great shame because, judging by the handful of 'new' tracks here, it could have been the best Small Faces album of the lot. All this and classic singles too!" Highlight: 'Tin Soldier', best rock performance bar none. (Read more of this review at Alan's Album Archives - see my profile page for more) [First added to this chart: 11/08/2011]

"Compilation of early EPs really takes off on the 1st CD, full of punchy insight into believable characters and the madhouse that is the modern era. Low-key but massively important and inspirational." Highlight: the oh-so haunting 'You Made Me Forget My Dreams', a song that sounds beautoful but reads like a murder novel...(Read more of this review at Alan's Album Archives - see my profile page for more) [First added to this chart: 11/08/2011]

"The wee lassie had a cracking voice before she tried to become a TV talent and it all went wrong - this is a spiffing compilation of Lulu's grittiest and catchiest recordings from the mid-60s. It's enough to make your heart go boom-bang-a-bang, although frankly that one's the only bad track here." Highlight: the title track, a sweet little song with a tiger in its tail that always gets a bad deal from music reviewers for some strange reason. Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 85.1/100, a mean average of 84.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 84.8/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.5.

Even though we only have a handful of albums in common, I like how you describe them, especially the top 10.

Many thanks for your comment, I'm glad you like it and yes, "Long, Long, Long" is easily one of The Beatles' best songs!

I have seen your chart a couple of times before, but I'm very curious to know how "Trans" is compared to other Neil Young albums. I've only heard very few of his albums.

Really cool chart! Neil Young's Trans is woefully ignored by most. Well done!

Thanks for commenting on my chart alan :0). I like yours too. Looks like a real music lovers one. If only i could get around to reviewing all the albums on mine too. I'm particularly keen to see love for Tigermilk, Sunflower, and Super Furry Animals if only half love for the latter :0D.

Excellent chart and reviews, with some albums that will be on my list when I get round to incresing the number from 40 and some others that I need to check out; the Searchers for instance. Thanks for your positive comments on my chart. Arthur is the one Kinks album I don't actually own. When I finally get hold of it I will be able to judge whether it is better than Village Green!

What an odd chart. You have "Hearts and Bones" but no "Graceland"; you have "with the beatles" but no "Abby Road", you have "love over gold" but no "brothers in arms"; etc!! No Pet Sounds, no who's next, no something else by the kinks, what??? still i like your taste, and it's nice to see the monkees there
