When I first saw this record many years ago on SuedeSwede's chart it was always in the back of my mind. I could never find it in store in my "only buy from record stores" phase. Not to mention only one or two songs was on youtube but they we're pretty low in quality. It wasn't on any streaming services but her Italian and English works were. I found the CD on amazon for $5 and I've loved it since! In a way it was like those love stories you hear where the guy goes after the same girl for years until he finally succeeds.
Despite the language gap, its never been a hindrance to me emotionally. In this modern age I can find translations to each of her songs and....oh boy. It's nothing "out there" or even new. What it does best is successfully capture the idea of an old soul trapped in a young body so to speak. It's not an easy topic to speak about because its verrrrry easy to sound rash and arrogant so the feeling is often internalized. It silently expressed and hinted in her writing, kind of in a way to see if you're actually listening to her speak. The lyrics really fit the age she was in, 18 believe it or not! She acted much older than her contemporaries or even her peers but still had a lot to learn and that's what this record really means to me. Kinda feeling isolated because all the people your age are out being dumb and most of the people older than you labeling you with those people that you want nothing to do with. In a way what else is there to do other than sit in the corner and watch from a distance until you "have" that level of maturity people expect from you later on, even if you may already have it.
Despite early copies giving most song writing credit to Hardy's producers it was actually mostly her, as seen in newer copies and in the albums booklet.

Cool indie/twee focused list. If you can scrape up the money, you should try to go to the Boatie Weekender this year. B&S, Alvvays, and Yo La Tengo are playing, it will be a show of a lifetime.

Jesus this is fucking beautiful, the C&L note made me cover myself with emotional clouds, and the bon iver one just buried the sentence that this is a lovely chart, and since I'm a noteaholic it would be against my golden law to not give this the perfect score, simply lovely <3
