Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by Keatownrodriguez (2021)

So basically, this isn't 1 to 1 with my actual opinions, it's so hard to figure out where goes where! My top 20 are probably accurate but afterward.... oh well, that just means I'll be changing it pretty frequently, making it more accurate. Also, I'll be finding new albums all the time so, check back!

I just have to say that I loved this album the first time I heard it at the great age of 14. But not only was it an instant connection, it was one that defined my high school years. This album has been reinvented as I listened to it through all of the most important parts of those years. It is something that will always remind me of my youth and I couldn't have picked a better album to be that. Biasy asides I honestly feel like these guys are speaking to and for a generation, MY generation. I relate with so much of what they're saying and the sounds feel so at home with me. Not to say they should be written off as a band just for young kids, just listen to If I believe you and tell me if you don't at least somewhat enjoy the lyricism and gospel influences that cover such a broad spectrum.
Every song here tells a story of growing up and finding yourself, it's what would happen if a feel good 80's movie was turned into a modern pop-rock masterpiece
They also have released three other albums that are some of my all-time favorites, I have very extensive thoughts on each of them so I have a chart ranking and talking about them

Similar to what ILIWYS was for my high school years, Nevermind was that for my middle school years. I mean I also listened to it a ton in high school but my memories are primarily attached to 7th and 8th grade. Like I'm sure most people can relate, life became complicated in middle school for me. To put it simply I was upset more than I ever had been and I needed an outlet. This album was my outlet. Pure, confused, raw emotion front to back. Also In Utero is a REALLY REALLY REALLY close second, and 50 percent of the time I prefer it

This is how you tell a story through music, each song stands on its own as a short story but put together tell a tale of death and sickness that gets me emotional every single time. Actually I'm pretty sure that this album houses the best song of all time in Famous Last Words. That song perfectly encapsulates what every song on this album has to some degree. A message of hope through grief accompanied by one melodic gem after the next
Three Cheers is also so very close in my heart and 50 percent of the time I prefer it

I feel like I knew this album in another life or something because first time I heard Say it ain't so and Buddy Holly I was just like "yeah that's weezer". Weird feeling man but It's true, this album is me. I have always been the blue album (I haven't always been Pinkerton but man I became Pinkerton when I got to high school for sure)

The summer I discovered this album was an unforgettable time, I was working with my best friends during the day and then we'd get together and just listen to new albums, this was unanimously our favorite we discovered all that summer. We would all sing and quote the album almost constantly and hearing any of these songs make me think of my buddy's beat-up car that we'd jam out in.

This album has been a part of my life for about 5 years at this point and I've been taking it for granted the whole time. This was one of the first records that my brother bought after he got his record player and I for some reason just didn't want to be into what my brother was. He'd play Grace pretty frequently and I really liked it. But for a long time, I never listened to the thing in its entirety of my own free will but I've had mojo pin, Halelujia, and Grace in rotation on tons of playlists. Recently however something just clicked with me and now I can't get enough of the genius on this record. So much mood accompanied by haunting guitar sounds and Jeff's beautiful vocals. It's stunning front to back. Also, I've been sucked into the rest of his posthumous releases. Especially The Sky Is a Landfill and his cover of The Smith's I Know It's Over, the ladder of the two actually got me to realize how much I love Jeff's work.

You can feel the anger and confusion of this album. Each song clearly reflects the band's feelings on the loss of their friend and why they think it happened. Corporate greed, substance abuse, and the dangers of overworking are all so tastefully portrayed through lyrics and sounds. I think it's so beautiful that guitars are used to represent Syd's voice crying out. There are so many other beautiful details like that scattered throughout the whole duration.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 2% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 89.8/100, a mean average of 91.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 91.8/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.8.

Interesting to see what an 18-year-old likes. The exuberant reviews are fun to read. I’ll probably listen to some of these that I had disregarded.

Love it. Clearly have your own taste in music but also clear you love music which is great! Much respect seeing our mutual love of Continuum! Also that Lianne La Havas album is indeed great! Have you ever listened to Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill? If not, highly recommended! Anyway, glad to see this and I hope to see you around the forums if you ever feel so inclined.

Really interesting, eclectic list here. Good mixture of genres, too. Is there a reason there's no albums from the 1960s on this list - is it not really your thing, or have you not had an opportunity to listen to much 60s stuff yet?

Btw, thanks for the nice comment on my list, much appreciated. FF7 quite obviously rules. :)

Thanks for your rating and comment on my chart. I find yours a very personal chart with some common albums like Illinois or ITCOTCK which I love to see and some interesting emo choices like My Chemical Romance or Death Cab for Cutie. Nirvana too in the top for my liking though. Great job anyways, love to see young people dig in so much music by themselves, I did the same too.

That's a ton of Weezer haha. Blue album and Pinkerton are great. Pretty good list, nice to see a good amount of lesser known stuff because some people only put highly rated albums. Like how much you love Queen. Pink Floyd Obscured by Clouds is underrated. You should check out XTC since you like fun upbeat rock bands like Weezer and such.
