Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

There is so much good music out there. You and I only have 17 albums in common, but you cite a lot of albums here (Mosely Shoals and K, for instance) that I've always liked without thinking about them in this capacity. Nice list.

Well, thanks everyone!
Been away from it for a while, and jman's rating pinged an email my way, which was nice... So I decided to finally finish it off.
There's always that temptation to put records in there that you think you ought to like, at the expense of ones you realy do, not because they're cool albums, but because you genuinely enjoy listening to them. IT's obvious that I was a yoof in the 90's, and was imprinted with Genesis early on, and that's what is reflected here.
...maybe I'm just gettin old!
