Top 93 Greatest Music Albums
by ilovelctr

Updated latest on Oct. 28th 2014. I don't really know when I'm going to fill this chart with 100 quotas, as a lot of albums I've heard just don't seem to satisfy me that much, if not at all, even though some of them are universally acclaimed classics. The reason for this diversifies for me. At times I just don't get hooked with the sound effects alone, with which said the content should be what I care the most, and not to mention that I don't like to count the "creativity/originality of its time" as the topmost factor. By and large, I like a thing for the sensation I'm getting from it NOW.

I don't really think this album is inferior to what they'd done previously. In fact, it's like a sweet dream instead of a dark dream, which is also tasteful. [First added to this chart: 09/18/2011]

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 18% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.2/100, a mean average of 87.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 87.7/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 8.3.

Unique chart! I'm here because of Enigma, I bumped it way up on my 1990 chart. Kinda forgot how much I actually like them. We have fifteen artists in common!

This is extremely interesting, lots of cool electronica to discover here. Will rate it again when I listen to some of the things here!

@rogue Gladly acquainted then! :) My love for It's Never Over is beyond words, and I think it's almost one forth of what makes Reflektor such a great album entirely.

In fact I'm planning to change the chart recently. I don't think it is because of my broad interest in different genres that makes some of the records on the list unrecognizable for many people, but rather it's because some albums I like are only known in the Asian cycle.

Super fascinating list! Unique and refreshing choices, many that I don't know as much as I'd like, including that Enigma record - I always loved them.

PS: I found you through your love of "It's Never Over" off Reflektor, as I have the same love for it. :)

If You like Enigma, maybe you like Trance-Formation by Eberhard Schoener.
He did a electronic gregorian crossover in 1977 in a more ambient way.
