Definitely Maybe was good; yet Oasis managed to better themselves within the space of a year with this beautiful album. The Kings of Brit Pop would never quite rediscover the heights of '94 and '95, but who cares when they produced sheer genius like this.

Absolution often gets the nod; but to me this is by far and away their best album. Witnessing it live in its entirety during the first half of their Reading 2011 set is something I will take to the grave with me.

Though I liked Sam's Town more than many seemed to, there is no doubt that their debut was superior. Having discovered this earlier than most people, I clung onto it for dear life. Mr Brightside and Somebody Told Me may now be overplayed; but don't pretend you don't know all the words.

Confession: I joined the bandwagon late. I was not one of those following Arctic Monkeys on MySpace before they hit the big time. As such, this album will never hold a special place in my heart as I'm sure it does for others. But its brilliance is simply undeniable.

A Rush of Blood to the Head and Viva La Vida probably contain more memorable hits. Yet there is something wonderfully simplistically perfect about this album that meant I simply could not leave it out. Especially in light of recent 'duh duh duh duh duh' Coldplay bandwagon jumpers.

The Eminem Show was bigger and more fun; but it lacked the necessary maturity of its predecessor to make this list. This was Em at his undoubted peak, with Stan and The Way I Am (along with Lose Yourself) his finest hits.

An ironic album title if I ever saw one, as I doubt anyone would utter those words whilst listening to this masterpice. Room On Fire may have had Reptilia, but this is a truly classic album.

Kurt Cobain's masterpiece. Though In Utero was a solid follow-up, it is a great shame that Nirvana did not create more albums due to obvious tragic circumstances. Arguably, however, that has added to their legend, and you can be sure you'll be seeing the naked swimming boy for the rest of your life.

At just 20 years of age, Nas created a landmark album for the East Coast Hip Hop scene. He has gone on to become arguably the King of Hip Hop. Yet nothing he has produced has compared to this definitive album.

Californication hinted to a move towards the mainstream for the previously bad boys of Funk; and in 2002, this album certainly achieved that. Everyone, myself included, was swept aside by the wave of RHCP hype. They were the first band I saw live, with much of this album played, and thus it holds a close place in my heart. That aside, however, it is a genuinely great album from a not-so-great band.
