"Look at the weak and cry, pray one day you'll be strong
Fighting for your rights, even when you're wrong
And hope that at least one of you sing about me when I'm gone
Now am I worth it?
Did I put enough work in?"
RANK: S-Tier
This album has my favorite track of the decade (Sing for me, I'm dying of thirst) and tells such a fascinating, heartbreaking story of growing up in poverty, surrounded by gang violence. Somehow, Kendrick overcame these challenges and found his calling. Every single song here shows just how easily a GOOD KID can become corrupted in a MAAD CITY. Between this and TPAB, (and to a lesser extent DAMN.) there's no denying that Kendrick has changed the landscape of rap and hip hop, as well as the music industry in general.
Favorite Tracks: Sing for Me/I'm Dying of Thirst, Money Trees, m.A.A.D City, Swimming Pools (Drank). [First added to this chart: 10/18/2018]

"Did you get enough love, my little dove
Why do you cry?
And I'm sorry I left but it was for the best
Though it never felt right
My little Versaille"
RANK: S-Tier
Easily one of the most emotional albums I've ever heard. While this record isn't as experimental or varied as other Sufjan albums (or other albums from this decade) the simplicity only adds to the beauty. With just his acoustic guitar, piano, voice, and iphone, Sufjan Stevens delivers a piece of art about loss, abandonment, and, eventually, forgiveness.
Favorite Tracks: Death With Dignity, Should Have Known Better, Fourth of July, The Only Thing. [First added to this chart: 08/22/2018]

"I remember you was conflicted
Misusing your influence
Sometimes I did the same
Abusing my power, full of resentment
Resentment that turned into a deep depression
Found myself screaming in the hotel room"
RANK: S-Tier
This is the album that truly got me into rap. Yes, I was late to the game but I can't think of a better album to introduce me to the genre. I'm not sure I've heard a more varied, exciting, album. Like Good Kid, this is a concept album. However unlike his previous album, Kendrick isn't telling a story about his childhood, but rather addressing conplex themes and tying it all together with a poem that plays after many of the songs. The poem grows every time he reads it until, in the ladt song, it's revealed that he's reading this poem to none other than Tupac. What follows is a back and forth, where Kendrick and Tupac talk about the state of the world and the struggles of growing up in a society that doesnt accept you.
Favorite tracks: King Kunta, These Walls, i, Wesley's Theory. [First added to this chart: 08/22/2018]

"Dreamers
They never learn
They never learn
Beyond the point
Of no return
Of no return
Then it's too late
The damage is done
The damage is done"
RANK: S-Tier
Who would have thought Radiohead would release one of their greatest albums in 2016? This is a beautiful, haunting piece that begs to be listened to multiple times. In fact, the first time I heard it I wasn't that impressed. With every subsequent listen though, I found myself appreciating it more and more. It's not as experimental as Kid A yet it still feels like something new and fresh.
Favorite tracks: Present Tense, Burn the Witch, Daydreaming, Identikit, Dark Decks. [First added to this chart: 08/22/2018]

"I’m dying to
Push their backs against the grain
And fool them all again and again
I’m trying to
It’s all gone wrong but on and on
The bitter nerve ends never end
I’m falling down
Don’t believe for just one second I’m forgetting you
I’m trying to
I’m dying to"
The swan song to one of the most fascinating, challenging, and fun music careers the world has ever seen. It's crazy to think back to when this was first released, before Bowie passed away. Even then, I loved this album. I thought it was amazing that even after all these years, Bowie still found a way to experiment with his craft and create new conpelling sounds. It was only after his death though that the full scope of this album was revealed. I had no idea when I first listend to black star that Bowie was saying goodbye. Its obvious now with lyrics like, "look up here, I'm in heaven" and "I can't give everything away" but I was blindesided when he died just a few days after the album dropped. The middle of this album can be hard to get through, where the songs become dark and the lyrics more abstract but thematically each song is integral.
Favorite Tracks: Blackstar, Lazarus, Dollar Days, I Can't Give Everything Away. [First added to this chart: 08/22/2018]

"Nothing ever changes
No matter how long you do your hair
Looks the same to everyone else
Everything is changing
I guess I should warn my mum
But she'll just be excited"
Easily one of the best psychedelic-rock albums in the last 20 years. Innerspeaker was a great debut album but Tame Impala really outdid themselves (or himself I guess) with Lonerism. Not really sure what else to say. Great production, thought provoking lyrics, and beautiful instrumentation and a distinct voice and style make this a very easy album to fall in love with. It's not perfect, there are a couple weaker songs in the second half, including the closer. This isn't enough to throw off the vibe of the album though.
Favorite Tracks: Apocalypse Dreams, FLWOGB, Elephant, Mind Mischief. [First added to this chart: 08/22/2018]
