Top 45 Music Albums of 1994
by mrmcrook

Not too great a year for music. Top third are fantastic albums. The rest are good but fall into the 'also ran' category.
Compilations, greatest hits, soundtracks etc have been ranked after studio albums. It's only fair on a year list

My top 10 favorite songs from 1994
1. Muttonbirds -Anchor Me
2. Nirvana - Where Did You Sleep Last Night
3. Nick Cave - Do You Love Me?
4. Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun
5. Live - Lightning Crashes
6. Blur - Parklife
7. Sinead O'Connor - John, I Love You
8. Bush - Glycerine
9. Nick Cave - Red Right Hand
10. Nirvana - Lake of Fire

87.50 My 2nd fave from them & I rate this higher than Nevermind in the Nirvana catalog. Stripped back and how a smaller concert should be. The covers are what makes this. One of the better all time live albums [First added to this chart: 10/14/2020]

84.64 Stacked with great tracks. Almost no filler. A massive career highlight. No other album they've made comes anywhere close to the caliber of this. The only album from them worth having. 03/25 [First added to this chart: 10/14/2020]

83.00 This is an album I am massively conflicted over. It's got a darkness to it. It's has deep tones. Like a grunge Sabbath. But for some reason it's like I try to talk myself into not liking it. But after a couple of songs you can't help but see the caliber of superb song writing and structure throughout, and then you cannot not like it. My main gripe would be way to long for the style and tonality. 05/24 [First added to this chart: 10/14/2020]

Not an avid fan of the whole pop-punk genre. But this album deserves it's credit. Most pop-punk bands can maybe manage one or two decent songs in there whole career. Green Day in this put out a whole album of great tracks. And got stronger as they progressed. Double thumbs up to them. [First added to this chart: 10/14/2020]

79.09 The best they've done. It has a droning feel to start off with but then it does quickly draw you in and gets better. You can't stay disheartened by it. One of the preferred of the grunge era albums. 'Pretty Penny' is the highlight. 11/24 [First added to this chart: 10/14/2020]

77.91 I seem to have had a misconception about this. Had it for decades but had it downplayed in my head. On recent listens, turns out its actually pretty good. Better than many of his albums rated above this. This is why you don't leave albums sitting unlistened to at the bottom of the pile. 01/25 [First added to this chart: 10/14/2020]

77.08 Korn have a sound of there own. It was a long slow process for me gelling with this album. I found it OK when I first got it but it all sounded to similar. Fast forward many, many years later and something has clicked. I enjoy it more now than I ever have and it gets better with every listen. Patience was the key.
Best track: Faget
Also love the bagpipe intro to 'Shoots And Ladders'

76.833* L7 deserve more credibility than they get. They're one of the heavier of the grunge genre. Great album. Rawer feel than 'Bricks Are Heavy'. Prodigy done a great job with their cover of 'Fuel my Fire'. I actually prefer it. 09/25 [First added to this chart: 10/14/2020]

76.25 Starts off great but then quality of the songs dips a bit. Fantastic rhythms on many tracks. Enough decent songs to deem it a good album. Not enough to make it great [First added to this chart: 09/08/2021]
