Top 45 Music Albums of 1994
by mrmcrook
Not too great a year for music. Top third are fantastic albums. The rest are good but fall into the 'also ran' category.
Compilations, greatest hits, soundtracks etc have been ranked after studio albums. It's only fair on a year list

87.40* This just kicks arse. It was about the 7th album from him I got and went to personal favorite of all studio albums from him I've heard. Yet to hear a Nick Cave & Bad Seeds album I didn't like. Brilliant. Just fucking brilliant. 10/25

84.64 Stacked with great tracks. Almost no filler. A massive career highlight. No other album they've made comes anywhere close to the caliber of this. The only album from them worth having. 03/25

83.50* The song Parklife was the first ever Blur song I heard. It's a fucking fantastic song. 20 odd years ago I got a Blur Greatest Hits CD. Fucking great CD. So I went to check out studio albums. The one I got was '13'. Didn't like it at all. In fact I thought it was quite shit. So it put me off a bit. Then when in Penny Lane scoping the racks, they had this album playing in full. It resonated well and was basically what I would have been expecting from a Blur album. So now I have it. Hooray. 05/25

83.00 This is an album I am massively conflicted over. It's got a darkness to it. It's has deep tones. Like a grunge Sabbath. But for some reason it's like I try to talk myself into not liking it. But after a couple of songs you can't help but see the caliber of superb song writing and structure throughout, and then you cannot not like it. My main gripe would be way to long for the style and tonality. 05/24

82.69 Not as epic as their debut but still great. Great vocals, great lyrics, great catchy tunes. Resonates with me greatly. The cover of Blam Blam Blam's 'Don't fight it Marsha' was a superb final track. Great 01/25

82.30* This had been on my wants list for ages but it's been hard to find. So hooray for finally finding it. You gotta take your hat off to Supergroove. Half the songs on this, they released as successful singles. That alone is a well done feat. Out of the whole album there's only one song that I'd deem filler. That's pretty top notch as well. Very heavy funk overtones. Good old kiwis. An iconic NZ album 10/25

82.08 This is the epitome of the mid 90's post grunge sound. Even though this was commercially pushed, it's a fucking great album. The singles are all top notch, but the tracks which make up the brunt of it are just as good, hence making it one of the better post grunge rock albums. 11/24

80.83 My favorite Cult album. They took a bit of a Doors-y path on this. Many people didn't like it. I did

Not an avid fan of the whole pop-punk genre. But this album deserves it's credit. Most pop-punk bands can maybe manage one or two decent songs in there whole career. Green Day in this put out a whole album of great tracks. And got stronger as they progressed. Double thumbs up to them.
