Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by hahol

I think personal charts always are feelings, combined with nostalgic connections to your youth and childhood favourites melted together with lifeexperiences and strong impressions from the past. I can not point at classic albums from the near past, because defining classics takes time! A great example is Nick Drake!
Some 25 years passed before his genius was rediscovered! I hope there are still several other artists out there to be appreciated and yet are to be discovered from the hidden past!

Another gem from Stevie. Sit back and listen to "Heaven is ten zillion light years away"! Wonderful Music. Listen to "Boogie on reggae woman"! This is top notch songs from a magic composer and instrumentalist. Along with "Talking book" and "Innervisions" this album ends his trilogy of fantastic music. Many prefer the double album to come, "Songs in the key of life",but I think that was too commercial." Music of my mind" started it all: Full freedom to fulfill his own musical vision, no interference from the Tamla bosses. Stevie was "king" from 72 - 76, AMEN! [First added to this chart: 10/23/2014]

Creedence was a breath of fresh air from the past when they arrived with potent oldfashioned rock'n roll in the late 60's. John Fogerty's voice was a mixture of Little Richard and Sam Cooke; white man singing as a fullblown black man. This album is the peak of their performances with lots of fire and guts. My favourite is the soulcracker: Long as I can see the light!! Intense and beautiful. [First added to this chart: 04/09/2015]

A very underrated folkalbum from the Newcastlegroup Lindisfarne. Unsophisticated and earthy delivery, but with charm and sensitivety.
"Lady Eleanor" is a pearl, "Winter song" as well. "We can swing together" swings like hell and must be a favourite pubsong. Love it!

The musicianship of this group is quite unique. A mixed blend of blues, country and plain rock, even some beautiful ballads too! Listen to Albert Lee's heavenly guitarsolo on "Song for Suzie". Modern Music takes the sign of the times in 76. Melodious rock with flash of both hard rock and pop. Interesting lyrics in the midst of unusual and various elements of many types of musikal influences. Bill Nelson bubbles of ideas and surprising transitions. The album is a personal favourite from this time of my life! [First added to this chart: 10/23/2014]

Bill Nelson did never get the recognition he deserved in the 70's. He was a maestro musician, guitar virtuoso and composer of great rock and clever lyrics with Be Bop Deluxe. This is their third album and possibly the best. Listen to "Blazing apostles", " Fair exchange", "Sleep that burns". [First added to this chart: 10/02/2014]

Free had a topnotch singer in Paul Rodgers and a divine and vulnerable guitarist, Paul Kossoff. Andy Fraser on bass and Simon Kirke made up a superb rhythm section and the group was a very promising act. Highway is their most lowkey album, but with beautiful songs like Soon I will be gone, Love you so, Be my friend. A deeply underrated work in their catalogue! [First added to this chart: 10/02/2014]

The lady with the most rare voice in rockhistory. This is her peakperformance. The personal feelings of a true genuine artist knock you to her feet and you are spellbound by the musical journey she invites you to on this album. Her backing band is truly great too! This is perhaps too obvious a choice! You can get tired of Stairway to heaven, but you can never deny its significance and influence on other artists at the time. The ladderlike construction and superb guitarwork is beyond any comparison. There is some sign of Jimi Hendrix in there too, but Jimmy Page sorted things out and it is a glittering diamond from start to finish! The album as a whole is perhaps more average. The Battle of Evermore, Plant and Sandy Denny duetting, is another beauty, though! Look at the cover too. Mysterious and magnificent! [First added to this chart: 10/23/2014]

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 6% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 88.7/100, a mean average of 89.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 89.1/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 8.9.

I respect your comment that "defining classics takes time," but I don't find my favorite albums are always classics. And to take that a step further, sometimes I'm just worn out on the classics. I wish there was more outisde of the 60s and 70s, but regardless nice chart with the best descriptions I've read in a while.

Some interesting picks. Great to see some unknown artist and some classics I give 90 points for that.

Not only do you have amazing albums included (from MJ to The Byrds), your descriptions are short and perfect, showing off your emotional intelligence and intellectuality. Don't let NE1 tell otherwise :)

Even if the music is not generally my cup of tea, the care you've taken in writing for each of these albums is astonishing and impressive. That said, I don't think I agree with your statement: "I can not point at classic albums from the near past, because defining classics takes time!" - this shouldn't be a list of albums you 'think' are classics, these are just your favourite albums!! The whole idea of 'classics' is a subjective construction anyway, I fear that some underground picks might miss your radar because of this standardisation of the rock canon. Would be nice to see some more of your fringe tastes come through!!
